Our People, Their Stories | Celebrating Pride Month – Jonathan DuBose

“My earliest memories involve nature; being outdoors catching lightning bugs or bees, listening to crickets, walking through the woods, and learning about animals land and aquatic – the more exotic the better.  I’m an only child born in the Carolinas and grew up in the westernmost region of Florida.  My dad traveled quite a bit with his career, and I was always envious of those adventures. My mom encouraged me to read as a kid; unfortunately, it took being in my 30s for me to find it enjoyable.

Coming out for me was not planned, it just happened, and was not an easy or pleasant situation. Luckily, I had a strong group of friends for support– many of which have become Allies today! Those experiences have shaped me as the person I am and strengthened my ability to empathize with others.

I always wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement. For this reason, I chose to major in accounting thinking that I would eventually move into an investigative career. My career materialized differently than I imagined, but I am thankful for the opportunities that I’ve had.

My 20+ year foodservice and retail career began with Target in Pensacola, FL while in high school. This year, I celebrate 10 years with Compass Group. During this time, I have held multiple accounting and finance positions at the Charlotte Corporate Office and with both the K12 & Higher Education divisions of Chartwells. Currently, I am the Divisional Operations Controller at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte campus. I am excited for my new adventure as I embark as Director of Finance for Compass’ ESS Sector supporting offshore and remote operations in the Lower 48 States, Alaska, and Antarctica.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, history, working out, yoga, reality TV, museums, and cooking. Additionally, I have volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters since January 2018 – my match is now an upcoming 7th grader!

I also enjoy being involved in corporate programs – 2015 was the first year Compass’ Corporate Offices participated in the Charlotte Pride Parade, and I was happily part of the team that helped create the event. Our “Altogether Great” motto fits perfectly for us to show our Pride. Compass’ involvement in Pride Charlotte has continued since 2015 and expanded to other cities.

Pride to me is about celebrating my individuality and all of our unique differences. It is about the love, acceptance, and inclusion of one another despite whom we love!”

June is Pride Month, and we are honored to offer our platforms to our team members as they share their journeys in their own unique voices.
